It was a rainy day. My roommate and I needed to go to the supermarket. Because it was raining we decided to go by bus. At the bus stop we saw a dog. He seemed hungry and lost. When the bus came and he saw us leaving, he started whining. So we decided to buy him some food and feed him when we were back.
When we finished shopping, we got the bus back but the dog was nowhere to be found no matter how hard we tried. Finally we gave up and headed back home regretting not having taken him with us in the first place. At home we organized our shopping and looked at the pet food left useless at the corner of our living room. We decided to watch a movie without any snacks this time as we chose to buy the dog food instead. As we were trying to pick a movie we heard scratches on the door. We jumped off the couch simultaneously to see who it was. Fortunately, it was the dog. He must have followed our smell. What should we do with this little cute guy?

(enchant:?passage,(b4r:"dotted")+(b4r-size:10)+(b4r-colour:red))We took him in. He seemed so frightened and lonely with his tail between his legs and his sad eyes looking up to us. While he was eating he kept whining and we gathered that there was something wrong with him. He was probably in pain. So we took him to the vet first thing the next morning to find out. The vet confirmed our worst fears. The dog had a few bruises hidden inside his fur and a few broken small bones as the CT-scan revealed. The vet said that the animal had been probably abused by humans, maybe by his owner and was abandoned. He also said that this is often the case with owners who are fed up with their pets. But he also reassured us that with love and the right treatment he would be out and about in a couple of days. When we returned home…

(enchant:?passage,(b4r:"dotted")+(b4r-size:10)+(b4r-colour:red))…he already felt better and in two days he even started wagging his tail and feeling safe and relaxed on the comfortable bed we had bought for him. He was so nice and sweet and those eyes… How could anyone hurt him intentionally? We had been looking for a dog for sometime in fb rescue groups but we could not decide by just looking at a photo. This dog was heaven sent, or so we thought until at one of those rescue groups we were members in, we came across an ad.

(enchant:?passage,(b4r:"dotted")+(b4r-size:10)+(b4r-colour:red))The ad included a picture of our Leo. Leo was the name we gave him not only for his bravery but also for his unusually long blond hair around his neck and head. The ad was asking whoever saw the dog in the picture to send a message or to call the number given in the ad. We wrote a message. We were one click away from what was supposed to be a good deed; to reunite owner and dog.
And you dear reader would YOU click or not click?

(enchant:?passage,(b4r:"dotted")+(b4r-size:10)+(b4r-colour:red))There were a lot of logical arguments in favour of sending the message to the owner. What if these puppy eyes missed their owner? What if he missed them? What if the poor guy were sad living with strangers like us? Why would the owner post an ad if they didn’t love him? Why would they look for him if they abused him? We wanted answers to all those questions. And we were determined to get them. We wouldn’t give up on OUR dog so lightheartedly. So we wrote a message to the owner and arranged to meet him with the puppy. We were sure that the minute they met, we would know whether to return him or not. The puppy would show us with his reactions. That was a fair arrangement for the end.

(enchant:?passage,(b4r:"dotted")+(b4r-size:10)+(b4r-colour:red))Whether to click or not to click was a decision made without exchanging any words between us but by just looking into our dog’s eyes. The owners should have known better than lose him. They should have protected him. They had their chance. He was the end now.
